Chili Cook-Off Chef 2026

Sausalito’s 47th Annual Chili Cook-Off!
Registration to compete as a chef is completely free, and you'll have the chance to battle it out in three exciting contest categories: Judge's Choice, People's Choice, and Best Booth. All cooking must be done on-site, and chefs should be ready to whip up at least 20 gallons of chili. Don't worry, advanced cooking skills are not required, just bring your passion for chili!

Note:

Check-in and Set-up:
• Date & Time: Check-in is on September 19th from 7:00 am to 8:00 am.
• Booth Assignment: You'll receive your booth assignment before the event.

You will be given $250 as a reimbursement for expenses.

Cooking Rules:
• Cook On-Site: All chili must be cooked at the park that morning. You can prep ingredients beforehand (e.g., soak beans, chop onions), but no pre-cooking is allowed.
• Tasting Time: Tasting starts at 12:00 pm sharp. Plan to have your chili ready by then.

Chili Quantity:
• Minimum: Cook at least 15 gallons of chili; 20 gallons is recommended. Judging ends at 3:15 pm. (Tip: Fill tasting cups halfway).

Judging and Awards:
• Judges Choice: Judges will taste your chili. Collection for judging is at 1:00 pm.
• People’s Choice: Participants get voting tokens to vote for their favorite chili. Each booth will have a token bucket.
• Best Booth Award: Awarded for the best decorations, set-up, costumes, and ambiance.

Materials and Supplies:
• Bring Your Own: Bring your own pots, stoves, utensils, tables, and cooking equipment.
• No Electricity. No charcoal, pellet, or wood burning. Propane stoves ok.
• Supplies Provided: The City provides tasting cups and spoons.
Chefs will be provided (1) 6' Table and (1) 10X10 Tent. Chairs not included.
If you would like to bring your own 10x10 tent to use instead of, or in addition to, the tent we provide, you are welcome to do so. If you need chairs or more tables, you may bring your own.

Additional Information:
• Aprons: Register by August 17th to get two personalized aprons.
• Family Event: Keep displays and attire family-friendly.
